<Computer Architecture> Please help me out. Give me a detail explanation for this !
2. (magnetic disk) Answer the following questions. (20 points) (1) Invention of the RAID (redundant arrays of inexpensive disks) was originally motivated by performance, but its current widespread popularity is caused by dependability (or reliability). Briefly explain how RAID can help you enhance performance and dependability respectively. (hint: Consider RAID-0 and RAID-6 for performance, and other RAIDs for dependability.) (2) Suppose we have a magnetic disk with the following parameters: Assuming that the disk is idle so that there is no waiting time, what is the average time to read a single sector? (Hint: disk access time = seek time + rotation delay + transfer time + controller overhead)Explanation / Answer
1))
RAID stands for Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks. It consists of two or more drives working in parallel. These disks can be hard discs, or SSD (solid state drives). The idea then is that these disks working together will have the speed and/or reliability of a more expensive disk. Now, the exact speed and reliability you'll achieve from RAID depends on the type of RAID you're using.
