To upgrade Windows Server 2008 to Windows Server 2012, We need to follow certain important steps :

Step 1 : First check the hardware requirements for Windows Server 2012. As Windows Server 2012 requires -

Minimum 16GB to 32GB Disk Space.

1.4GHz 64bit processor.

512MB of RAM, DVD Drive, Higher resolution monitor, Keyboard and Mouse.

Step 2 : Second Check for various versions available for Windows Server 2012 which gets compatible for your desktop/laptop device.

Step 3 : Goto control panel > open system and security > open system , their you can see the information about the Windows Server 2008 installed in your system including system information like memory space ...

Step 4 : Insert Windows Server 2012 DVD into the DVD-ROM and then click on Run Setup.exe.

NOTE : Make sure the options you click just go through the options once so that your data will be secured.

Step 5 : On the Windows setup screen, Click on install now option.

Step 6 : Select No Thanks option as we can do windows update after the upgrade gets completed once.

Step 7 : Enter the product key which is available to you with in windows server 2012 DVD. To get the product key just explore the DVD of windows server 2012 and search in the available files > click on Next option.

Step 8 : Click on Windows Server 2012 Datacenter(Server with a GUI) > click on Next option.

Step 9 : Click on Upgrade : Install Windows and keep files, settings and applications option.

Step 10 : Upgrade gets start and to complete the process it takes 20 mins.

Step 11 : After the completion of process, Login window gets displayed : just login into the server.

Step 12 : Click on server manager > Click on local server. You can get all information about the Windows Server 2012 which is installed in your system.
