Question

This question is from an old test that I took and I gotwrong. The answer is 16.1 m but I wouldappreciate if you show me the steps. You'll get "live saver"from me. What is the molality of ethylene glycol (molar mass62.07g/mol) in the recommended 50 weight percent aqueous solutionused in radiators? This question is from an old test that I took and I gotwrong. The answer is 16.1 m but I wouldappreciate if you show me the steps. You'll get "live saver"from me. What is the molality of ethylene glycol (molar mass62.07g/mol) in the recommended 50 weight percent aqueous solutionused in radiators?

Explanation / Answer

Since it is a 50 % wt aqueous solution, in 100 g of solution, we have 50 g of ethylene glucol and 50 gof water. Molality = mass of ethylene glycol * 1000 g / ( molarmass * mass of water)             = 50 g * 1000 g / (62.07 g/mol * 50 g)             = 16.11 m
