Question

1) could the separation in this experiment have been done in adifferent order? for example, if the mixture were the firstextracted with water and then the extract and the insoluble residueboth heated to dryness could you determine the amounts of NACL,NH4CL, and SIO2 originally present? why or why not? 2) how could you separate barium sulfate, BASO4, fromNH4CL? 1) could the separation in this experiment have been done in adifferent order? for example, if the mixture were the firstextracted with water and then the extract and the insoluble residueboth heated to dryness could you determine the amounts of NACL,NH4CL, and SIO2 originally present? why or why not? 2) how could you separate barium sulfate, BASO4, fromNH4CL?

Explanation / Answer

answer 1) As the given mixture conatins NACL,NH4CL, and SIO2 originally present so the extract contains NACL , on heating NH4CL sublimes AND THE insoluble remains will be SIO2 . on drying we can get mass of NACL present (drying of extract ) , drying of insoluble residue is SiO2 and if we collect the NH4CL fumes in another flask we can get NH4cl.mass

answer 2)By the process of sublimation we can you separate barium sulfate, BASO4, fromNH4CL  As NH4Cl is more able to sublime than baso4 it is then collected in other flask and BaSO4 will not remain as residue ) so we can find the mass for both very easily .
