Question: Concentration time data for the conversion of A and B to D arelisted in the following table:
Experiment Time [A] [B] [C] [D] 1 0 5.00 2.00 1.000.00 60 4.80 1.90 1.000.10 2 0 10.00 2.00 1.000.00 60 9.60 1.80 1.000.20 3 0 5.00 4.00 1.000.00 60 4.80 3.90 1.000.10 4 0 5.00 2.00 2.000.00 60 4.60 1.80 2.00 0.20
(a) Write a balanced equation for thereaction?
(b) What is the reaction order with respectto A, B, and C and what is the overall reaction order?
(c) What is the rate law?
(d) Is a catalyst involved in this reaction?Explain.
(e) Suggest a mechanism that is consistentwith the data?
(f) Calculate the rate constant for theformation of D?
I need help on this I am way over swamped with mid-terms thisweek and have no idea where to start on this problem???? Pleasehelp!! Question:

Explanation / Answer

(a) 2A+B-->D

(b) A=1st   B=0   C=1st   OverAll=2nd

(c) (considering Rate=k[A]^m[B]^n[C]^o, A is 1st so m=1, B is 0th so n=0, and C is 1st so o=1) Rate=k[A][C]

(d) Yes, not exactly sure why yet...

(e) A+C-->AC, AC+B-->AB+C, A+AB-->C

(f) (k=Rateof D/[A][C] and Rate of D= 0.10/60 or 0.20/60 depending on the experiment) k=1.5E-4
