Question
Most organic liquids expand as temperature goes up andcontract as temperature goes down. Is the density at 25oC greater or smaller than at 20oC? EXPLAIN. Do you think the value of nD25 (n,refractive index, D sodium line) for a liquid should be greater orsmaller than its value of nD20? Most organic liquids expand as temperature goes up andcontract as temperature goes down. Is the density at 25oC greater or smaller than at 20oC? EXPLAIN. Do you think the value of nD25 (n,refractive index, D sodium line) for a liquid should be greater orsmaller than its value of nD20?Explanation / Answer
We know that density , d = mass per unit Volume At 25 oC the liquid expand i.e., the volume is increases butthe mass remains the same. But the mass per unit Volume decrease. So, its density is less at 25 oC. Where as at 20 oC the Volume is decreasing, there by the massper unit Volume will raise so the density will increases. Therefore the density at 25 oC is less than that at 20oC.Related Questions
