Question

I need help on balancing chemical equations. I don't knowwhere to begin or end. For example how do I balance KO2(s) +CO2(g)----->K2CO2(s) + O2(g)? I need help on balancing chemical equations. I don't knowwhere to begin or end. For example how do I balance KO2(s) +CO2(g)----->K2CO2(s) + O2(g)?

Explanation / Answer

KO2(s)+CO2(g)----->K2CO2(s) + O2(g) Since you have basically the same compositions on both sides (K,O2, CO2) you don't have to worry aboutindividual oxygens. Start with the one that looks easiest, likeK. 2 KO2(s)+CO2(g)----->K2CO2(s) +O2(g) Then balance O: 2 KO2(s)+CO2(g)----->K2CO2(s) +2 O2(g) Side note: double check your products to make sure they are correctand not suppose to be something like: 4 KO2(s) + 2 CO2(g)-----> 2 K2CO3(s) + 3O2(g)
