Thomas - After feeling ill and weak for several days, 84-year-old Thomas had his daughter drive him to the hospital. It was busy in the emergency room, so they had to wait for hours. The doctor he finally saw determined that he had bacterial pneumonia. Because of the time delay, Thomas did not receive antibiotics within six hours of his arrival, which studies have shown to improve the treatment of his condition. As a result, Thomas had to be hospitalized for several days and didn't recover as quickly as he might have if he had gotten antibiotics sooner.
Explanation / Answer
There are following components of quality tat were less than optimal scenario:
a. First of all the man is too old (84 years), so he should be given proper attention. It is given in case that he was ill for several days and felt week,however he should be taken to doctor as soon as there is any symptom of illness.
b. When they found that emergency room was busy,they should have look for another hospital as soon as possible.
c. There was also irresponsibility of the hospital people that even if the emergency room was busy,they should have treat the old man first in another room because his condition can be critical. Due to irresponsible nature of hospital; people,the old man did not recieved antibiotic and took longer time to recover.The consequence could have been more worse.
So there should be facility of alternative emergency room.
