Question
3) A 5.00 g of a gas A (Mw 65.16 g/mol) at an initial temperature of 400.0 K and pressure of 1.00 atm is held within an adiabatic piston-calorimeter. Only gas A is present in the calorimeter. Gas A undergoes a decomposition reaction: AHn 11.50 kJ/mol (of gas A) At the end of the reaction, gas A has completely reacted to B. Pressure is adjusted back to 1.00 atm and temperature has fallen to 298.1 K. 3a) What is the molar mass of gas B? 2. 130.32 mo 3b) What is the total Q in kJ of the reaction occuring in the clorime 3c) What is the specific heat capacity (cp) of the gas B in J/g-K? (Remember to 501 1-.( 5.00) (1.00) (101.9) : convert kJ to J to obtain your answer.) CY : 3d) What is the molar speific heat capacity (m) of the gas B in J/mol-K?Explanation / Answer
a) no of mol of A taken = 5/65.16 = 0.767 mol
1 mol A = 2 mol B
no of mol of B formed = 0.767*2 = 1.534 mol
Molarmass of gas B = nRT/P
= 1.534*0.0821*298.1/1
= 37.543 g/mol
b) Q reaction = 11.5*0.767 = 8.8205 kj
c) specific heat of B = q/m*DT
mass of gas B = 1.534*37.543 = 57.6 g
= 8.8205*10^3/(57.6*(400-298.1))
= 1.5 j/g.c
d) molar specific heat capacity(Cp,m) = 8.8205*10^3/(1.534*(400-298.1))
= 56.43 j/mol.k
