Figure 2b is a histogram in which the ordinate scale is Kcal/mol, on which are plotted the absolute chemical potentials of A in the three phases. These absolute potentials may be very large, and we do not know the exact values; so, only the top of the histogram is shown, indicating only relative values of the equilibrium chemical potential (denoted as Ha by the dotted line in the bar for the gas/vapor phase) with respect to the standard-state chemical potential (denoted by superscript 0).
