Question
Consider the organization of the food webs below In addressing the following issues. Indicate an example of a primary producer, a primary consumer, and a secondary consumer in the food web below. I have drawn lines representing foraging connections In this food web. Develop a hypothesis about whether this is a top-down, bottom-up, or middle-out ecosystem and modify the lines (add arrowheads) according to your hypothesis. Add lines indicating Indirect effects if appropriate. Now briefly discuss how the web might change If attempts to reintroduce wolves into the system are successful. Much of the energy in each of these webs is lost as waste material or through death of organisms in the food web. How does some of this energy get recycled back into the webs?Explanation / Answer
Primary Procedure: Aquatic algea, Grass, Reindeer moss
Primary consumer: Caribou, musk oxen, moose
Secondary Consumer: wolves
It is a bottom-up foodweb. If wolves are reintroduced in the ecosystem, the number of secondary consumers will increase. As a result the number of primary consumers will decrease. This will result in increase in number of the primary pricedures.
The Enery from the death of the primary and secondary consumers are basically lost in this scheme. It can be reintroduced in to the web by introduction of the microbes, which can decompose and provide nutrients to the primary producer level
