Question

14. Use the graph on the reverse side of this page to answer the following: a) Which substance is least soluble at room temperature? b) Which substance is most soluble at room temperature? c) The solubility of which substance is least affected by temperature? d) At what temperature is the solubility of potassium chlorate equal to 40g/100g of water? e) What is the solubility of potassium nitrate at 60°C? f) What is the solubility of potassium iodide at bo°c? g) If you had 80 grams of sodium nitrate at 20°C what type of solution would you have (unsaturated, saturated, supersaturated)?

Explanation / Answer

14)
a) Room temperature is around 250C , so from the graph the sunstance that has the leasr solubility is Potassium Chlorate
b)Room temperature is around 250C , so from the graph the sunstance that has the leasr solubility is Potassium Iodide
c) If you observe the graph, the curve for Sodium Chloride is almost a straight line which indicates that it is least affected by the Temperature when compared to other substances.
d) Potassium chorate has the solubility of 40g/100g of water at around 800C
e) At 600C potassium nitrate has the solunility of around 110 g/ 100 g of water
f) Potassium Iodide has the solubility of 230 g /100 g of water at 600C
g) From the graph, at 200C saturated solution of the sodium nitrate has the solubility of around 90 g /100 g of water. As per the given info only 80 grams(<90 g/100 g of water) is present so it is Unsaturated
