Question
I need the, “ if the product is to be sold in 1-pint sized serving containers, what is the weight of the liquid in each serving in both grams and pounds?” answered. A sinker made of 316 Stainless Steel with an exact volume of 10.00mL has a mass of 79.900g in air. The sinker is suspended in a liquid sports drink that contains approximately 50% by weight protein. The mass of the sinker suspended in the liquid is only 67.500g. What is the density of the liquid protein drink? If the manufacturing release specification for density is 1.22-1.25, can the manufacturer release the product? If the product is to be sold in 1-pint sized serving containers, what is the weight of the liquid in each serving in both grams and pounds? 5.
Explanation / Answer
When an object is completely immersed in a liquid,
the loss in weight of body = Wt of liquid displaced by object.
Similarly when an object is completely immersed in a liquid (sinker), the volume of liquid displaced is equal to the volume of object displacing the liquid.
Volume of sinker = 10.00 ml
Mass of sinker in air = 790900 gm
Mass of sinker in liquid = 67.500 gm
Loss in weight of sinker when immersed in liquid = 79.900-67.500 =12.4000 gm
Weight of liquid displaced by sinker = 12.400 gm
Volume of liquid displaced by sinker = Volume of object (sinker) =10.00 ml
Therefore density of liquid = mass/volume = 12.4 / 10 = 1.24 gm/ml
Density of liquid protein drink = 1.24 gm/ml which lies in the range 1.22-1.25, so the manufacturer can release the product.
1 UK pint = 568.26 ml
Weight of liquid in 1-pint sized container = 568.26 X 1.24 = 704.600gm = 704.6 / 453.59 = 1.55 pounds
