Question

I did an lab experiment on water of hydration and need help with the following questions.

A. Determine the weight of the hydrate heated using the weight of the empty crucible and that of the crucible and unknown before heating.

*The weight of the empty crucible was 11.345g, the weight of the crucible and unknown b4 heating was 12.639g*

B. Determine the weight of the anhydrous salt by comparing the weight of the unknown before and after heating.

*The weight of the unknown b4 heating was 12.639g and after heating was 12. 436g.*

C. Determine the mass of the water lost.

D. Calculate the percent water of hydration using the mass of the water lost and the weight of the hydrate.

Please help me with this!!

Explanation / Answer

A. 12.639-11.345 = 1.2940 grams of hydrate heated B. 1.2940 - (12.639-12.436) = 12.436 - 11.345 = 1.0910 grams of anhydrous salt C. 1.2940 - 1.0910 = 0.20300 grams of water lost D. 0.20300 grams / 1.2940 grams total * 100% = 15.688% water
