2. A white, crystalline solid dissolved in water forming a pale blue solution. A precipitate resulted when the solution was treated with 6M sodium hydroxide. The precipitate dissolved in ammonia, giving a royal blue solution. A second portion of the solid was dissolved in water. Treatment of a portion of that solution with silver nitrate resulted in a white precipitate. The precipitate dissolved in ammonia. Identify the origional salt, giving its chemical formula. Explain your resoning briefly.

1. (a) Adding dil. Nitric Acid will then produce CO2 gas thus distinguishing between the two. (b) AgNO3 i.e. Silver Nitrate, Sodium-Halogens when acidified with Nitric Acid and then treated with this form a precipitate (white) which is entirely or partially soluble in Liquid Ammonia, and then giving their respective colours helping in their detection. 2. the salt is anhydrous CuSO4 (Copper Sulphate) which is white crystalline in anhydrous form and when mixed with water forms CuSO4 . 5H2O which in Pale Blue in colour. The salt forms Na2SO4 on reacting with Na and gives blue colour when dissolved with Liq. Ammonia (color is also Partly due to ammonium ions.) then with silver nitrate this forms AgSO4 as white ppt. which is soluble in Liq. ammonia.
