Question

D. After completing the experiments above, two students make the following comments: "The capacitor with two bulbs in series got charged up a lot more than the capacitor with two bulbs connected in parallel because the series circuit charged the capacitor for a longer period of time." Student 1: "I disagree, the bulbs in the parallel circuit were brighter so this capacitor gained more charge." Student 2: Do you agree with student 1, student 2, or neither? Explain your reasoning. orials in Introductory Physics Dermott, Shaffer, & P.E.G., U. Wash. ©Prentice Hall First Edition,

Explanation / Answer

i disagree with both the students. The maximum charge stored by the capacitor will be same in each case. In series , the capacitor gains a Voltage equal to the battery voltage . in the parallel circuit also , the capacitor gains the same amount of Voltage. hence the charge stored will be same in each case since
