Question
Can someone help me resolve the (c) part, I got 4.09*10^-18 J but it is wrong. Problem 5 a) An electron in a Hydrogen atom moves around in a circular orbit of radius 0.51 x 10-10 m. Suppose the hydrogen atom is transported into a magnetic field of 0.70 T, where the magnetic field is parallel to the orbital angular momentum. At what frequency does the electron revolve in the e field? Submit Answer Tries 0/6 b) What is the associated speed of the electron? Assume that the radius of the orbit remains constant. Submit AnswerTries 0/6 c) Imagine the electron is initially traveling at a speed of 3.00 x 106 m/s, what is the change in the kinetic energy of the electron when it is introduced in the magnetic field? Submit AnswerTries 0/6 Due Monday March 26 11:59 am (EDTExplanation / Answer
Kinetic Energy remains constant. The magnetic field always exerts a force perpendicular to the particle’s velocity, so the magnitude of the velocity remains constant and so does the kinetic energy.
Note: In your question of part c change in Kinetic Energy (which is 0) is asked not Kinetic Energy.
So as Kinetic Energy is constant answer will be: Change in Kinetic Energy=0
