Question
So we have to answer some questions on a discussion board for points, and someone submitted this questions:
When dealing with Hydrogenation of Oils, does it matter which double C bond you hydrogenate if there are two or more to make the oil partially hydrogenated?
Someone else added this in:
Will the oil ever be partially hydrogenated if there is a double bond? As in only one hydrogen is added? I think that if the double bond is broken, 2 hydrogens will always be added to the carbons that were part of the double bond
Is there anything else relevant to this thread that I can add in? Thanks!
Explanation / Answer
Unsaturated hydrocarbons under go hydrogenation in presence of Ni catalyst which can give ssaturated hydrocarbons
