Question
Find percent yield for crude and pure caffeine?
Mass of Tea Leaves: 15.1808 grams
Recovered Crude Caffeine: 0.146 grams
Pure Caffeine: 0.057 grams
So when I do percent yield of the pure substance would it be 0.057g/0.146g*100 OR 0.057g/15.1808g*100
Or is this done differently by finding the using the reactants? Limiting reagent? Or can I do it this way?
If you need to reactants. I used 15.1808g tea, 500 mL DI water, 7.5g Calcium Carbonate, Dichloromethane, Magenesium Sulfate.
Find the percent yield of crude and pure trimyrisitn?
Mass of nutmeg: 5.054 grams
Crude trimyristin: 1.402 grams
Pure Trimyristin: 0.407 grams
Again for the pure percent yield do I do pure/crude*100 OR pure/total mass*100?
5.054 g Nutmeg, 50 mL dichloromethane, washed with (2)10 mL acetone.
Find the density of the known liquid?
Wt. of Pycnometer: 7.8625 grams
Wt. of Pycnometer +DI Water: 9.8876 grams
Wt. of Pycnometer + Known Liquid: 9.6235 grams
Explanation / Answer
it will be the saame way
Pure Caffeine: 0.057 grams/Mass of Tea Leaves: 15.1808 grams
there is no need of reactants.
for the second case also same method is applied
pure yield=pure/total mass*100
crude yeild=crude/total mass*100
mass of known liquid=1.761g
mass of DI Water=2.0251
density=1.761/2.0251=0.8695
