Question
In addition to helping me solve this problem, it would be great if someone could give me a rule of thumb on when power is negative in these problems as that's been tripping me up. How can you tell from the wording of the problem if the power is negative or positive? And COP means coefficient of performance
An air conditions is removing heat from a room at 20 degree C at a rate of 9,000 kJ/h and rejecting the waste heat to the outdoors at 35 degree C. If the COPR = 3 and we model this as a refrigerator, the power consumed is -2.0 kW 0 83 kW -0.72 kW 0.67 kWExplanation / Answer
COPR=Output/Input
9000 KJ/H
=2.5
3=2.5/Power
=0.83 KW as absorbed by the system so take it to be positive
