What is It about most sedimentary rocks that makes them unsuitable for radioactive dating? Why do we use Ar^40 in preference to Co^kj in K^a0 dating? what advantages does it have? Any disadvantages ? 1) actually sedimentary rocks are formed by the disentigrated and decomposed products of pre existing rocks like igneous and metamorphic rocks . so they are just accumulations of different rock particles which are derived from different rocks. so that if we conduct a radiometric dating of thi sedimentary rock which is made by different rock products , we can only find the age of those particles only not the age of sedimentary rock.
so they are not suitable for radiometric datings
