Question
Petroleum and most geologic resources are problem for sustainability for humans because (circle best answer): the natural (geologic) rate of production of petroleum and other geologic resources is mast faster than the rate humanity consumes it, resulting in an increasing amount of pollution; they are radioactive; deposits are too difficult to extract; the natural (geologic) rate of production of petroleum and other geologic resources is much slower than the rate humanity consumes it, resulting in resource depletion on human time scales; earthquakes and volcanic eruptions destroy many resources and render others inaccessible; bacteria introduced during the process of resource extraction has spread to other underground resources and is rapidly destroying them. The above cartoon is a cross sectional view showing a magmatic (island) are, a subduction zone, a spreading ridge, and a continent. Numbers 1 to 4 mark the location of a certain type of partial melting mechanism. Some of these numbers may repeat the same mechanism. Answer the questions 1 through 4 below corresponding to the number on the figure above and note well the additional guidance in terms of where the melting takes place (ie what son of rock is partially melted and where). Partial melting lithospheric mantle occurs above a subducting oceanic plate at this location. Describe the melting process that occurs at this location (name the process AND describe it). Partial melting of continental crust occurs at this location. Describe the melting process that occurs at this location (name the process AND describe it). Partial melting of mantle asthenosphere occurs here. Describe the melting process that occurs at this location (name the process AND describe it).Explanation / Answer
Petroleum and other geological structures are problem for human Sustainability because answer is D , that natural rate of petroleum and other geological resources is slow as compare to than rate of humanity consume it.
A Partial melting of lithospheric mentle above the subducting the oceanic place is at location one , as the oceanic plate is going down some part of it start melting and it tries to rise up , this type of feature are associated with Iceland arc and the trench, and this is a subduction zone.
B Partial melting of continent occurs at location 3, because when the oceanic and continental plate comes towards each other, oceanic plate being heavy submerged down and continental plate tries to ride up to oceanic plate, as the temperature increases going down it starts to get melt and the magma rises up and form volcanoes .
C partial melting of mantle occurred at location 2, when the 2 ocianic plate moving away from each other then some part of magma from the mantle rises up , this feature is associated with the mid oceanic ridge
