Question
4. A student is Studying the equilibrium escribed by Equation 19. heat + CoSO4 .7 H2O(s, pink) +7 SOCI2(l) CoSO4 (s blue) +7 SO2(g) +14 HCI(g) (Eq. 19) Using microscale techniques and working in a fume hood, the student mixes pink CoSO4.7 H2O with SOCI2 and heats the mixture in a covered container. The solid turns blue. The student removes the cover from the container and stirs the blue solid. After replacing the cover, the student cools the mixture, but observes no color change. Briefly explain the basis for the Student's observations.Explanation / Answer
Since he opened the container, the gases went off to the atmosphere. When he closes the container there is only CaSO4 left a no HCl or SO2. Therefore, since there is no reactants to favour the backward reaction, there is no reactions at all!
