Which would not be part of the mechanism for an Sn1 reaction? Which factor(s) can influence the rate of a reaction? Name the structure shown to the right Cyclobutane (C4H8) decomposes in a first-order reaction, with a rate constant of 87 s , to form two molecules of ethylene (C2H4). If the initial concentration is 4 M, what is the concentration after 0.030 seconds? Please round your answer to one significant figure. Cyclopropane thermally decomposes by a first order reaction to form propene. Please round your answers to two significant figures. If the rate constant is 6.0 s-1 what is the half-life of the reaction? How long does it take for the concentration to reach 0.0625 of its initial value?

Explanation / Answer

The first three answers are absolutely correct.

The answer for the other parts are

4) Ca = Caoe^(-kt)

     Thus Ca = 0.29M

5) half life for a first order reaction = ln2/k

    t1/2 = 0.12 sec

thus, it would take 4 X .12 = 0.48 seconds to reach the concentration to 0.0625M.
