So the density is mass per unit volume.

And mass does depends on the amount of substance. But the density does not. Because the increase in volume due to increase in amount of substance will cancel the effect of the increase in mass.

And even practically the density of any substance is considered as a constant. Like density of water is : 999.97 kg/m
