Question

We have a 10.0 L flask containing Cl2 gas and a 10.0 L flask containing Ar gas.
A. Which contains the largest number of molecules? (Please briefly explain)
B. Which flask do the molecules have the highest root mean square speed?( please explain)
C. In which flask do the molecules have the highest average kinetic energy? We have a 10.0 L flask containing Cl2 gas and a 10.0 L flask containing Ar gas.

Explanation / Answer

A) at const. temp. equal volumes o. of the gasess can equal no.of molecules.
so both of them have equal volumes .
B) RMS is inversely propotional to mol.wt of the gas
so Cl2 has highest RMs

C) both of them have same K.E. because K.E is varies w.r.t. temperature only. here the temp. is constant.
