Insulin receptor is a transmembrane receptor found in its target tissues like liver cells (hepatocytes), fat cells (adipocytes) and skeletal muscle cells. In the presence of insulin, glycogenesis occurs in liver. In the absence of insulin, glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis occurs.
