Two sets of ionizations are shown in the tables below. Complete the tables by ordering each set of ionizations by increasing amount of energy required.
In other words, for each set choose "1" next to the ionization that would require the least energy, "2" next to the ionization that would require the next least energy, and so on.

Question #19Assessment Progress
Two sets of ionizations are shown in the tables below. Complete the tables by ordering each set of ionizations by increasing amount of energy required.
In other words, for each set choose "1" next to the ionization that would require the least energy, "2" next to the ionization that would require the next least energy, and so on.
Explanation / Answer
Out of the given ionization,
the order in increasing amount of first ionization required is given below. 1 is given to the one with least amount of first ionization energy (I.E.1) required, 2 to the next one and so on
1) Ca (I.E. 1 = 590kJ/mol)
2) Sn (I.E.1 = 708 kJ/mol)
3) Ar (I.E.1 = 1520 kJ/mol)
4) Ne (I.E.1 = 2080 kJ/mol)
5) He (I.E.1 = 2372 kJ/mol)
That is increasing order for first ionization is as
Ca < Sn < Ar < Ne < He
Also second ionization energy(I.E.2) is always greater than the first ionization energy(I.E.1) and third ionization energy (I.E.3)is greater than second ionization energy(I.E.2).
I.E.3 > I.E.2 > I.E.1
This is because when one electron gets removed from gaseous atom , the positive charged ion will have one electron less.As a result hold of elctrons by nucleus increase . So now more energy is required to remove another electron.
