Question

Calculate the initial rate for the formation of C at 25 ?C, if [A]=0.50M and [B]=0.075M.

I know that the rate = K[A]^2[B]^1

To find initial rate I know you plug in the information into the rate eqaution, does it matter which rate you choose? Becuase originally I choose to use tiral 2 rate (1.5 x 10^-2) but it said the anwer was wrong. So I used trail 3 rate and it was correct.

So how do you determine which trail rate you use to plug in the information?

Consider the reaction A +2B C whose rate at 25 C was measured using three different sets of initial concentrations as listed in the following table: Trial A B] Rate 0.35 0.050 7.4x10-3 2 0.35 0.100 1.5x102 3 0.70 0.050 2.9102

Explanation / Answer

rate = k [A]^2 [B]

Actually it shouldn't matter which trial rate you choose , all of them should give you the correct answers. But sometimes you may encounter a particular question like this for which one trial rate gives you an incorrect answer.
