Need help in answering this question?! While using some methods to detect the activity of telomerase or methods of telomerase inhibition, fluorescent dCTP or fluorescent dGTP are used. So is it possible to inhibit telomerase activity by only using fluorescent dCTP or fluorescent dGTP?!!!

Explanation / Answer

The method for detecting telemerase activity in a substrate comprises of contacting the substrate with a fluorescent labelled telomerase substrate oligonucleotide primer and with dATP, dGTP, dCTP and dTTP. In the presence of telomerase, extension products are formed. These extension products are then amplified using polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The presence of fluorescence in the PCR products indicates the presnce of telomerase activity. So, all four fluorescent labelled nucleotide phosphates dATP, dGTP, dCTP and dTTP are used to determine the activity of telomerase.
