Question
A lab for kinetics of saponification of an ester was being done. We used 50.0 mL of the 0.0500 M sodium hyoxide, and 50.0 mL of distilled water, both mixed together.
We measured the conductivity in k(umho) of the solution for every 2 min, total 76 min. We were given the formula. We later on measured the conductivity after one week which is the values from the TRUE section, and we also created a sythetic solution with sodium acetate, isopropyl alcohol, and isopropyl acetate in water.
[OH-]=((K-Kinfinity)/(K0-Kinifinity))*[OH-]0
Can someone help me with finding the [OH-] concentration? and what is K0 and C0??? How do I calculate???
Explanation / Answer
In order to calculate concentration of hydroxyl ion, we need calculate pH of solution-
pH = - log [H3O+].
pH = - log (0.0500) = - ( - 1.30) = 1.30.
Now from pH one can calculate Hydroxyl ion conc.
[H3O+] = 10-pH or [H3O+] = antilog (- pH)
1.30 = - log [H3O+]
- 1.30 = log [H3O+]
[H3O+] = 10-1.30 = 5.1 x 10-2 M
Need more explanation for K0 and C0 calculation…
