When alcohol is irradiated with infrared light th th alcohol absorbs th light corresponding to th particular wavenumber and we get a peak at 3200 - 3640 cm^-1 is the spectroscopy. But when the alcohol starts converting into ketone then the peak starts shifting towards 1660 - 1760 cm^-1 . Since CO bond is highly polar we get a large peak at 1660 - 1760 cm^-1 which shows us that all th alcohol has been convertd into ketone.
