For EACH question please explain why, I want to learn! Thank you!
1. Which of the following is the weakest base? A.) F- B.) OBr- C.) CN- D.) NO2- E.)NH3
2. All the following species would be expected to function as Lewis bases except A.) BH3 B.) H2O C.) I- D.) OH- E.) NH3
3. Which of the following salt solutions is acidic? A.) KNO3 B.) NH4F C.) NaCl D.) NaC2H3O2 E.) ZnBr2
4. Which of the following salts when added to pure water will not change the pH? A.) NaHCO3 B.) KHSO3 C.) KNO3 D.) NH4NO3 E.) NaNO2
Explanation / Answer
1) F- is weakest base it is conjugate base of strong acid HF
2) species which can donate pair of electrons is said to be lewis base , all species given above can donate pair of electrons so all are act as lewis bases.
3) NH4F adds to water dossociates to NH4+ which will produce H+ ions so solution behaves as acid.
4 )KNO3 add to water gives K+ and NO3- both are weak conjugates of strong acid and strong base.
