2Al(s) + 3CuCl2(aq)-------> 3Cu(s) + 2AlCl3(aq)
Trial-1:
a) number of moles of CuCl2 =3.899/170 = 0.0229moles
b) number of moles of Al= 0.182/26= 0.007
As per above reaction
number of moles of cucl2 involves in formation of AlCl3= 2/3*0.0229= 0.015moles
number of moles of Al invloves in formation of Alcl3 = 2/2 * 0.007moles
so, aluminium is limiting reactant
Mass of residue (actual yield ) = 1.16-1.1b
= 20.144-19.138= 1.006g
C) Therotical yield
as per above eqn, 26 g of Al gives 132.5 g of AlCl3
0.182g gives ?
= 0.182*132.5/26
= 0.927g
D) % of Yield = Actual yield / therotical yield *100
= 1.006/0.927 *100= 108.26%
Trail-2
You know that aluminium is limiting reagent
Mass of residue (actual yield ) = 1.16-1.1b
= 13.630-13.435= 0.195g
C) Therotical yield
as per above eqn, 26 g of Al gives 132.5 g of AlCl3
0.218g gives ?
= 0.218*132.5/26
= 1.11g
D) % of Yield = Actual yield / therotical yield *100
= 0.195/1.11 *100= 17.5%
Averge percentage of yield = 108.6+17.5/2=56.05%
answers to the questions ;
a) Yes, Trial-1
b) one possible reason is improper drying of final yield leads to error
c) method is not provided. so may be methodic error or reagent error
Any how above errors are determinate errors
