(1) Why is CH CH CN more polar than CHaCH CH.CN? (2) Why is CH3CH2SCH3CH2 less polar than EtSH? (3) Suggest 3 ways to improve the separation of two compounds using column chromatography. (4) If compounds (X and Y) have R, values of 0.80 and 0.95, respectively, in 1:1 hexane.ethyl acetate in a TLC experiment, should you use a more polar or less polar solvent system to separate them using column chromatography (SiO2)? (5) Suggest a suitable mixture.Explanation / Answer
1) As number of alkyl groups increases liphophilic nature increase so compound with less number of alkyl groups is more polar
2) Ether has less polar than thiol , polarity of EtSH is due to SH bond
3) By changing mesh size of selica, b) by changing solvent system c) by increaseing lenth of stanationary phase
4) Less polar system is sufficient for it
4) DCM Hexane is also suitable my depends on nature of compound
