How many liters of carbon dioxide produced from the combustion of 1.00 liter of octane one mole of gas occupies 22.4 liters

Explanation / Answer

Solution :-

Balanced reaction equation for the combustion of the octane is as follows

2C8H18 + 25O2 ------ > 16 CO2 + 18 H2O

1) How many miles of carbon dioxide are produced for every mole of octane?

Solution :- mole ratio of the octane to CO2 is 2 : 16

Therefore for 1 mole octane 16/2 = 8 moles of CO2 are preduced

2) The density of octane is 0.700g/cm^3 what is the mass of one litre of octane?

Solution :-

Mass = volume * density

1 L = 1000 cm3

Therefore mass is

Mass = 1000 cm3 * 0.700 g per cm3

       = 700 g

3) How many miles of octane are in 1.00 litre of octane?

Solution :-

Moles = mass / molar mass

Moles of octane = 700 g / 114.23 g per mol

                           = 6.128 mol octane

4) How many miles of carbon dioxide are produced from the combustion of 1.00 litre of octane?

Solution :- 1 L octane = 6.128 mol

Mole ratio of the octane to CO2 is 2 : 16

Therefore

6.128 mol octane * 16 mol CO2 / 2 mol octane = 49.0 mol CO2

So 1 Liter octane can give 49.0 mol CO2

5) How many liters of carbon dioxide produced from the combustion of 1.00 liter of octane one mole of gas occupies 22.4 liters

Solution :-

1 mol = 22.4 L

49.0 mol = ? L

49.0 mol * 22.4 L / 1 mol = 1098 L

So the volume of the CO2 = 1098 L
