Question
I need help calculating the excess concentration of C2O42- in a gravimetric analysis of Calcium ions.
I did an experiment where we determined the concentration of calcium in an unknown solution by using gravimetric analysis. The reaction (at equilbriuim) is Ca2+ + C2O42- + H2O(l) = CaC2O4*H2O (s). I need to calculate the excess concentration of C2O42- and im not sure where to start.
Concentration of Ca2+ was calcualated to be = 0.0561
25 ml of 0.15M NH4C2O4 was added to the mixture. Any help would be awesome!
Explanation / Answer
1000 ml of 0.15M NH4C2O4 contain 0.15 moles of C2O42-
and 25 ml of 0.15M NH4C2O4 will contain 0.00375
thus 0.05235 moles C2O42- are req in excess
