Question

Procedure
Put on a pair of gloves.
Place a small pinch of sucrose crystals in a clean, dry test tube.
Use a pipette to add 15 drops of water to the test tube.
Swirl the solution for 3 - 5 minutes. Record your observations in Table 4. Pay particular attention to the sucrose solubility.
Repeat Steps 1 - 3 with the remaining chemical samples. Be sure to wipe off your gloves on a paper towel between chemical samples to avoid cross-contaminationNote: The corn starch sample can be heated slightly by warming the test tube in a hot water bath if it you have trouble dissolving the corn starch in the water.
Clean and thoroughly air dry all five test tubes.
Place another small pinch of sucrose crystals in a test tube. Try to use the same size pinch that you used in Step 1.
Use a new pipette to add 15 drops of ethanol to the test tube
Swirl the solution for 3 - 5 minutes. Record your observations in Table 4. Only record the chemical as "soluble" if all the crystals dissolve.
Repeat Steps 6 - 8 with the remaining chemical samples. Again, try to use the same size pinch for all chemicals, and remember to wipe off your gloves between chemical sampling.Note: The corn starch sample can be heated slightly by warming the test tube in a hot water bath if it you have trouble dissolving the corn starch in the water.
