Question

1 - The molar solubility of cadmium hydroxide, Cd(OH)2is 1.8842 x 10^-5 M. What is the Ksp value of cadmium hydroxide?

2- What should be the color of the solution being titrated after mixing the bleach, potassium iodide, and sulfuric acid but before the addition of any sodium thiosulfate?

What should be the color immediately after adding the starch solution?

3- What volume of sodium thiosulfate and water are needed to make an approximate 0.10 M solution starting with 1.0M sodium thiosulfate solution.

Explanation / Answer

Ksp = [Cd+2][OH-]^2

Assume  [Cd+2]= S

[OH-] = 2S

Then

Ksp = [Cd+2][OH-]^2 = (S)(2S)^2 = 4S^3

Ksp = 4*(1.8842*10^-5)^3 = 2.67572*10^-14

2)

There is no indicator shown, therefore you should not expect a change in color. IF you added phenolphtalein, then, expect it to change from transparent to purple-pinkish

3)

M1V1 =M2V2

0.1*V1 = 1*V2

V1/V2 = 1/0.1

V1/V2 = 10

V1 = 10*V2

10 times the volume you start with
