a. The crude death rate of australia in 2012 would be-

no of deaths in 2012 / total population x 1000

therefore it would be - 405458 / 22,728,254 x 1000 = 17.84

b. age specific death rate for 0-4 years would be given by-

no. of deaths in the age group / no of people in the age group x 1000

no. of deaths during 2011 - 2013 is 59533

total population in 0-4 year age group = 4465106 x 1000

59533 / 4465106 x 1000 = 13.33

c. again using the same formula for age group >85 years, we get :

35959/ 1263440 x 1000

= 28.4
