Question
Use the figure below to answer the following questions. Show all work
flask A : 10ml of vinegar and mol of CH3CO2H
Add more 10ml of H2O from A to B
flask B
Add 30ml of 0.400 M NaOH from B to C
flask C
1. Write the neutralization reaction for this experiment.
2. Calculate the concentration of acetic acid in flask A.
3. Calculate the concentration of acetic acid in flask B.
4. Calculate the concentration of acetic acid in flask C.
5. Determine which concentration/flask should be used to calculate the percentage of acetic acid in our vinegar.Calculate the percentage of acetic acid. Assume the concentration of acetic acid is 1.00g/mL
Explanation / Answer
1) neutralization reaction :
CH3COOH + NaOH ------------------------------> Ch3COONa + H2O
2) moles of CH3COOH = 1
volume = 10 ml
molarity = (moles / volume ) x 1000 = (0. 01 / 10) x 1000 = 1 M
note : moles of CH3COOH is not given so i took 0.01 moles for convinence
in flask A CH3COOH concentration = 1 M
2) in flask B)
molarity = 1 x 10 / 20 = 0.5 M
3)
millimoles of CH3COOH = 20 x 0.5 = 10
millimoles of NaOH = 0.4 x 30 = 12
CH3COOH + NaOH --------------------------> CH3COONa + H2O
10 12 0 ----------------------> initial
0 2 10 ----------------------> equilibrium
CH3COOH concentration = 0 M
total consumed.
note : all the problems based 0.01 mole of CH3COOH i took because you did not give it . if anything wrong substitute that value insted of 0.01
