Question
Calculate the percent composition of a three-component mixture.?
Hi guys I could use some help.
The mixture is
Benzoic acid 95.61g
Anisole 243.48g
o-toluidine 296.16g
brought to volume with 2L of methylene chloride.
We only used 10 mL, how do I calculate the mass/percent composition of each component.
Im not sure exactly what to do I need the percent composition for the 10 mL sample. I know how to get it for the 2L solution which is just the density of the methylene chloride x the volume, then add each component and then fourth. But what about just for 10 mL of the mixture?
Explanation / Answer
mass percent composition = mass of the solute /mass of solution*100
mass of methylene= 2L = 2000ml*1.33 = 2660 grams
density of methylene= 1.33 g/ml
mass of solution = 3295.25 grams
Benzoicacid = 95.61/3295.25*100 = 2.90%
Anisole = 243.48/3295.25*100 = 7.39%
o-toluidine = 296.16/3295.25*100 = 8.98%
mass percent composition is same in 10 ml solution also
