Oraganic Chemistry Problem
Can someone please synthesize the cyclic ether form of glucuronic acid using arrow formalism starting with an ethane and using reagents to build up the molecule to its desired product? I have started this on my own but got so lost. Some guidance would be much appreciated! Stereochemistry is also super important to maintain! Thank you to whomever takes the time to do this! By the way, it only has to make sense on paper, so you are allowed to protect all but one of the same type of group if needed. for example, silicone reagent can protect all of the OH groups but the one you want to work with! once again thank you!
Explanation / Answer
Synthesis of glucuronic acid can be done using bio-synthesis routes. First from pyruvic acid (pyruvate) to glucose by gluconeogenesis and then from glucose to glucuronic acid by enzyme (Could not find the name of the enzyme). Therefore, the main task is to form pyruvic acid from ethane, which can be done by the following way.
CH3-CH3 + Br2 ------> CH3CH2Br ----NaOH-----> CH3CH2OH ------[O]----> CH3COOH ---SOCl2---> CH3COCl ----KCN---> CH3COCN -----H+/H2O----> CH3COCOOH (pyruvic acid)
