• Using a “double boiler” set-up, heat 50 mL of DMF [N,N-dimethylformamide] to 98- 100º C. [In a double boiler, you place your flask of DMF in a beaker of boiling water to heat it. This insures that the temperature of the DMF does not exceed the boiling point of water.]

• Add 1 mmol (0.7 g) of [MnIV(salpn)(µ-O)]2 to the hot DMF and stir until the solid is dissolved (20-30 minutes).

• Vacuum filter quickly into a clean filter flask. .
