Question
When performing a titration by adding a NaOH solution to a KHP solution (as in Part B of the experiment), what marks the endpoint of the titration? when the indicator changes from red to blue when the indicator changes from blue to red when the first pink Color appears before swirling when the first pink color persists after swirting when the phenolphthalein changes from pink to colorless. This lab requires patience and precision. If you overshoot the titration endpoint, you'll have to keep repeating the titrations until you get good results. At a minimum, each group will need to titration NaOH with KHP ___.Explanation / Answer
Answer – Q 3) We know the titration between the NaOH and KHP is acid base titration. NaOH is the monobasic and KHP is monoprotic acid, so there is stoichiometry is 1:1 . Reaction as follow –
NaOH(aq) + KHC8H4O4(aq) -----> KNaC8H4O4(aq) + H2O(l)
We are used the phenolphthalein indicator, since there is titration is acid and base and at equivalence point there is pH is 7 and at the end point there is pH around the basic like 7 to 8, so phenolphthalein indicator is good indicator.
When we added two to three drops of the phenolphthalein indicator in the KHP and it is titrating with NaOH then at the end point there is forming the pink color after the swirling, so correct option for this one is – When the first pink color persists after the swirling.
Q 4) We know the titration reaction between NaOH and KHP as follow –
NaOH(aq) + KHC8H4O4(aq) -----> KNaC8H4O4(aq) + H2O(l)
So there is mole ratio between NaOH and KHP is 1:1, so At a minimum, each group will need to NaOH with KHP is 1 times, and will need to titrate NaOH and vinegar 1 times, since NaOH is monobasic and vinegar has also monprotic acid, so both has needed 1 moles for complete reaction.
