Question

1.Did either allele A or a disappear from the population you studied? Why or why not?
2. Did the effect of natural selection vary with different starting allele frequencies in identical environments? Why or why not?
3. A population in which the frequency of alleles remains the same over generations is said to be in genetic equilibrium. Describe one mechanism by which a populations' genetic equilibrium can be disrupted and result in the process of evolution.
4. In which of the simulated environments do individuals of the genotype Aa survive best?
5. In which of the simulated environments do individuals of the genotype aa survive best?
6. Which set of data represents a type of natural selection that stabilizes the allele frequencies of the population?

Explanation / Answer

1. Yes allele A disappeared. The reason for this disappearance was because it was it was eaten more often due to its prominent color.
-----------------------------
2. Yes the effect of natural selection varied with different allelic frequencies under the same environment. This is because the number of alleles in the 1st generation determines how much time it will last. If there are only 2 it will go extinct faster than a population with 30 individuals.
-----------------------------
3. One mechanism by which a populations' genetic equilibrium can be disrupted and result in the process of evolution is change in environment.
------------------------------
4. Aa - grassland
-----------------------------
5. aa - urban
----------------------------
6.The set of data which represents a type of natural selection that stabilizes the allele frequencies of the population is ---Grasslands with an allelic frequency of 0.5:0.5
