Question

Concerning the DNA strand labeled "y"!2which of the following are true A) this strand is called a template strand B) the tRNA that base pair with the mRNA during translation could also be basepair directly with this strand C) as this is not the coding strand , mutation that change the sequence of nucleotides in this strand will not affect the sequence of amino acids in the protein that is made ause when it is mutated it acts as an oncogene ANDs ecause it halts cellular division of damaged cells. RNA CACTCATG CACCACT 3 TACCACGTA ATGTGCAT 3 5 DNA RNA polymerase in translation initiation and mRNA protection will becon ules will become added to this end. nslation could start even though transcription is not yet

Explanation / Answer

In the above shown image Y is a template strand whose complimentary strand is the coding mRNA. Hence, option A) is the correct answer.

In the image, the process of transcription is shown in which the DNA strand is used as a template to produce RNA. The template strands in above image are Y and Z; and from the Y template strand the RNA named W is being formed. In this process, the RNA polymerase enzyme is used to transcribe RNA from DNA strand by adding nucleotides.

Now, t RNA binds with the mRNA to form proteins in the process called translation but it can not bind with the template strand itself because the mRNA is complimentary to template strand. That is why t RNA can not pair directly as the basepairs will not be complimentary then.

Hence, option B) is the incorrect answer.

It is not a coding strand, but the mutation will affect amino acid sequence ; because the coding strand is complimentary to the template strand and if there is mutation in template stand it will result in different basepairs in coding strand which will cause formation of different amino acids which will change finally the protein.

Hence, option C) is the incorrect answer.

Option A) is correct therefore, option D) none of the above is incorrect.

In the processes, like the replication and transcription. When the DNA double-helix umwinds there will be template strands from which the coding strands are formed. Then, the coding strands will be used in completing the process from transcription to translation. The template stand in the image shown above has 'Y' template stand used for forming mRNA stand (W).

Hence, option A) is the correct answer.
