Explanation / Answer
1) What do you think is a major cause of celiac disease ?
A) One of the main reasons of celiac disease is not proper feeding of children with breast milk. The breast milk contains greater number of bifidobacteria, that are responsible for tolerance of gluten. Children fed with breast milk for a longer duration were more tolerant towards gluten. Also, breast milk contains antibodies , prebiotic sugars and some proteins that signal to the immune system, which protect the child against certain diseases.
B) There maybe an increased prevalence of E.coli in the gut, which is responsible for inflammatory responses against gluten in the gut. Also, for some children the case may be of an auto immune disease, due to the genetic make up of the child. This could be over come by feeding them with a gluten free diet.
2) If celiac disease is a true autoimmune disorder, how is this gluten sensitivity different from a wheat allergy?
Gluten sensitivity is the case when ingestion or consumption of gluten leads to the development of certain extra or intra - intestinal symptoms and these symptoms can be mitigated or eradicated once the food that contains gluten is removed. This can only be concluded after the chances of celiac disease or wheat allergy has been disregarded. This can come from food intolerant, metals, mites, dog hair nickel and even shellfish. Some people may also present with lactose intolerance.
Wheat allergy can be classified as one of the food allergies that Give rise to mast cell response and IgE responses. Many of these are only contained to wheat proteins. This can also be a form of contact allergy that occurs due to exposure to the reaction causing allergen. This allergy is restricted to some wheat proteins and even seed storages.
