Anorexia:
Anorexia Nervosa is a kind of physiological eating disorder in which patient has very low body weight in comparison to BMI (Body Mass Index) found. Along with this extreme weight loss unnecessary weight gain , distorted perception of self-image and body are also observed in this possibly life-threatening eating disorder.
The term anorexia means self-starvation and lack of appetite. Patients having very thin body and very little eating habits.
Treatment:
During the treatment of Anorexia Nervosa patients a professional treatment team involving medical doctors, dieticians, and therapists is required. Mainly three types of treatment is needed-
· Medical: The top most priority among other treatment processes. Try to address whether there are any serious health issues caused due to of anorexia nervosa like unstable heartbeat.
· Nutritional: As less eating is the reason behind everything about this disease the nutritional part is highly important in this treatment. It take scares of weight restoration, implementation and strict supervision of a tailored meal plan, as well as education about normal eating patterns to patients.
· Therapy: The target of this part of treatment is to understand the underlying associated reasons with the eating disorder, try to address them and heal from traumatic life events, learn healthier coping skills etc. This is highly required to develop the ability to express and deal with emotions.
Bulimia:
This is also a kind of physiological eating disorder where food up taking volume is abnormally high in a short period of time and the patients attempts to avoid gaining weight by purging (like vomiting) what was consumed.
A habit of, excessive use of laxatives or diuretics or prolonged periods of exercising also observed along with vomiting in this this possibly life-threatening eating disorder.
Treatment:
The root of bulimia lies with the negative body image and poor self confidence, thus it is highly important that therapy is integrated into the recovery process.
Binge Eating Disorder:
Just like Bulimia this is also a of physiological eating disorder where food up taking volume is abnormally high in a short period of time but after eating patients don’t attempts to avoid gaining weight by purging.
A patient does not feel at all about their hunger condition. Even they are over filler they feel hungry.
No specific time frame is known. It depends and varies from patient to patient and their condition. Unfortunately no simple cure exists till now. But these combination of treatments are really effective and recoveries is possible is they are implemented at proper time.
