Explanation / Answer

1) (a) 1500 = 1.5 X 10^3

(b) 0.00022 = 2.2 X 10^-4

(c) 0.0000075 = 7.5 X 10^-6

2) decimal notation

(a) 8.5 X 10^4 = 85000

(b) 1 X 10^-5 (we will put 5 zeros before 1 and after decimal)

Ans: 0.000001

3) Let my height is 160 cm

So (a) in meters = 1.6 metres

As 1cm = 0.01 m

(b) in millimeters

1 cm = 10 millimeters

160cm = 1600 millimetrs

4) given 1L = 33.81 Fl oz

Now 1L = 1000mL

so 200mL = 200 / 1000 L = 0.2 L

So 0.2 L = 0.2 X 33.81 Fl Oz = 6.67 fl Oz

5)

we know that

1Km = 0.621 miles

So 17 kms = 17 X 0.621 miles = 10.557 miles

So it can travel 10.557 miles / hour

6)

a) we know that 1 meter= 1000 millimeter

So 1641 meters = 1641 X 1000 millimeter = 1641000 millimeters = 1.641 X 10^6 mm

b) we know that

1 gram = 0.001 Kg

So 7.3 grams = 0.001 X 7.3 kg = 0.0073 Kg

c) 1 L = 1000mL

so 350 L = 350 X 1000mL = 3.5 X 10^5 mL = 350000mL

7) 1 cubic cm = 0.061 cubic inch

so 54 cm^3 = 0.061 X 54 in^3 = 3.294 in^3

8) The density = Mass / Volume

Density = 51.4 grams / 3.80 mL = 13.52 g / mL

1mL = 1cm^3

So 13.52 g /mL = 13.52 g / cm^3
